Life Stories

Inspired by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s TED talk on The Danger of a Single  Story I started to think about my own stories and the story which is told about women like me.

A story that is regularly told about women is the one about how we are all striving to ‘have it all’. The truth of the matter is that we all want different things at different times of our lives, and these different things are what make us feel fulfilled – we all have our own library of stories which make this a reality for us. So the single story of ‘having it all’ can be a misleading one.

The women I talk to daily say they want satisfying work, healthy happy families, vibrant relationships, and the space and time to love and nurture themselves – is this ‘having it all’ or is it a portfolio of stories which sit together and intertwine as and when we want them to?

I am a firm believer that we are continually writing our stories, each phase of our lives present a new chapter in a story or a new narrative all together and we choose how and when each story is told.

So, what’s your story and what’s the narrative today?
