How to get out of a creative rut

If you are staring at a blank page, or have hit a road-block when it comes to fresh ideas for your business - don't panic! Creative ruts aren't terminal and the good news is that you don't have to wait for inspiration to find you; here are 5 easy ways to kick-start your creative juices again...

Don't force it - there is a great quote: 'be patient with yourself, nothing in nature blooms all year'. Your creativity will take natural peaks and troughs. Be kind to yourself and allow your creativity to ebb and flow rather than expecting it to be 'on' all the time. If you can't be creative, can you be practical and get some other tasks done that don't require creative thinking?

Get inspired - rather than focussing on finding solutions to your creative block, look elsewhere for inspiration - in art, nature, photography - it doesn't have to be directly linked to spark your creative interest again.

Think outside the box - forcing the issue is rarely the way to finding a creative solution. The more you try and 'be creative' when you're not feeling it, the harder it will feel. Try going at it from a different angle. If you can't find the right words, look for images that evoke the message you are trying to convey, and visa-versa.

Who are your industry idols? - revisit the stories of people in business that inspired you in the first place. How did they overcome stumbling blocks on their road to success? Listening to podcasts, watching interviews and reading autobiographies are all ways of reminding yourself: 'everyone was a beginner once'.

Talk it out - we can rarely be creative in isolation. Whether you need to talk through an idea with a friend or colleague to find clarity, or you just need to set up your office in a buzzy coffee shop where you can interact with other people outside the 4-walls of your office. Human contact and sharing your ideas can often help you out of a creativity stale-mate.

Why not book a 'Clarity Call' with me to find out what is blocking your creativity? Together let's get you back on track!
